How to fix the battery drain problem in AirPods Max speakers

Many owners of Apple's AirPods Max have reported through leaflets on Apple's support page and many forums that the speakers are draining their battery power quickly even when they are not in use, with some stating that their fully charged battery capacity has dropped to 1% within a few hours even with their smart box.

So far, Apple has not issued any statement on this problem or an official way to resolve it, but rumors have circulated that the problem may often be resolved after the speaker driver is updated to the version with the number (3C39) that Apple has just released.

However, due to the fact that Apple does not provide patch notes for driver updates for its wireless headset, as with the operating system (iOS) and macOS versions, there is no official confirmation that this update will solve the problem once and for all.

Because the update is moving slowly, it may take some time before this confirms as the update reaches more users, and then if you experience this problem with AirPods Max speakers, you should update it as soon as the update is available.

How to update the driver in AirPods Max speakers:

Normally, the software update for Apple's wireless earbuds: AirPods, AirPods Pro and, of course, AirPods Max headphones are automatically installed while connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth and placed in the charging box, where the whole process occurs indirectly.

Then if there is a new version that will automatically be downloaded and installed in the background, making the process very easy, however if you want to make sure that the AirPods Max headphones are up to date, follow the following steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap the Bluetooth option.
  • Make sure the AirPods Max headphones are on and are listed on the connected devices list, if not, pair them with your iPhone before proceeding.
  • Press the icon (i) - the information icon - next to the AirPods Max headset.
  • Check the version number listed under the Firmware Version option. If you find that the version is 3C39 or any higher version, the speakers are up to date for the last version.

If the version number isn't as mentioned above, it means that the speakers haven't happened yet, and although you can't do the update manually, you can try to force the update, and to do so, follow the following steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Click on the Bluetooth option.
  • In the Connected Devices menu, press the (i) icon, information icon, next to the AirPods Max headphones.
  •  Press the Forget this device option, then connect the speakers to the charger.
  • Go back to the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap the Bluetooth option.
  • Under the Other Devices option, press to pair the AirPods Max headphones with your iPhone.
  • Wait 30 minutes and then check the updated version again by following the steps mentioned above.

Note: If you try to force the update but still don't see it installed, it's possible that the new update version you don't have yet, in which case you can wait a few days and then try again.
