Apple's mixed reality glasses coming in mid-2022

"Apple plans to launch the long-rumored mixed reality glasses in mid-2022, followed by augmented reality glasses by 2025," ming-chi Kuo of TF International Securities said in a new research note.

"We expect Apple's hybrid and augmented reality product roadmap to include three phases: head glasses by 2022, regular glasses by 2025, and contact lenses between 2030 and 2040," Coe wrote.

The analyst predicted that the head-on product provides augmented and virtual reality experiences, while regular glasses and contact lenses are likely to focus on augmented reality applications.

Ko said: Many prototypes of Apple's mixed reality glasses currently weigh between 200 and 300 grams, but the final weight is supposed to be reduced to between 100 and 200 grams if Apple can solve technical problems, making it much lighter than many of the current VR devices.

Given the complex design, Coe expects the headset to be priced at about $1,000 in the United States, in line with the iPhone's flagship price.

In line with an earlier rumor, Ko said the head glasses will be equipped with Sony Micro-OLED screens and several optical modules to provide a transparent augmented reality experience, adding that the glasses can also offer a VR experience.

"The glasses will be portable, with the power of independent computing and storage, but they are not as portable as the iPhone," Ko said.

"When technology improves, we believe that the new headwear product can also enhance its mobility.

Ko believes that Apple's headlights have the potential to provide a much better immersive experience than current VR products.

As for Apple's augmented reality glasses, Coe expects to launch in 2025 at the earliest, and believes there is no prototype yet.

"The glasses provide a visual insight into augmented reality, and are positioned as a more mobile product than mixed reality glasses," said Ko.

"While the headlights provide a great immersive experience, the glasses focus more on providing a portable experience with an augmented reality experience.

Coe is looking to integrate Apple's glasses with the long-rumored Apple car, which is likely to be several years away.

Looking ahead and expecting the company to launch contact lenses sometime after 2030, Ko said: This product transfers electronics from the era of visual computing to invisible computing.
