Apple's virtual reality head glasses coming in 2022

 


Apple's development of virtual reality headsets includes a cloth design, a fan, and a high price, but the prototype faced many development hurdles, and the company had conservative sales forecasts, demonstrating how difficult it is to introduce this emerging consumer technology to the masses.

According to Bloomberg, Apple's first virtual reality headset could be launched as soon as 2022 as a stand-alone battery-powered device, similar to Oculus Quest 2.

As a virtual reality device, the headgear displays a comprehensive 3D digital environment for games, video watching, and communication, and augmented reality functionality, and the ability to overlay images and information in real-world view, will be even more limited.

Apple plans to launch the product as soon as possible by 2022, to counter Oculus from Facebook and Sony's PlayStation VR.

This time, Apple is not looking to create an iPhone-like experience for its first headgear, and instead, the company is seeking to build a sophisticated, sophisticated product that will prepare external developers and consumers for the most common VR glasses.

Plans indicate that Apple's first glasses will be much more expensive than their competing counterparts, which cost between $300 and $900.

Some Apple insiders believe that the company may sell only one glasses per day per retail store, and Apple has nearly 500 stores, and according to this scenario, annual sales will be just over 180,000 units – excluding other sales channels.

This scenario would put it on par with other expensive Apple products, such as its Mac Pro at $5,999.

Apple is developing some of the most advanced and powerful chips for unannounced VR headsets along with screens with much higher resolution than those found in current VR products.

Some of these chips tested in the device outperformed Apple's M1 Mac processors, and the company designed the glasses with a fan, something the company usually tries to avoid through mobile products.

The head glasses bear the code name N301 and are still at a late stage of the prototype and have not yet been completed, so the company's plans can be changed or canceled entirely before launch.

Strong processors and fan insertion initially led to a very large and heavy device with some concern about neck strain in early testing.

Apple has removed augmented reality tools typically intended for users who need to wear glasses, helping to reduce size.

For visually impaired consumers, the company has developed a system through which custom medical lenses can be inserted into their head glasses via virtual reality screens.

Apple uses an external fabric to reduce the weight of the head glasses, a departure from the metal designs used by the company for most products, although it has used plastic for devices such as AirPods and HomePod speaker fabrics to improve acoustics.

Prototypes of the head glasses, some of which are the size of Oculus Quest, include external cameras to enable some augmented reality features.

The company is testing the use of cameras for manual tracking and developing a feature where the user can write by default in the air to enter the text.

It is unclear whether this function will be ready for the first version of the device or whether it is leaving the exploratory phase.

The company is also still grappling with the content and functionality it intends to ship with the device, as virtual reality remains a fairly new technology, and content other than gaming is still relatively limited.

Last year, Apple acquired a company called NextVR, which recorded events such as concerts and sports in virtual reality.

The App Store assembly was also discussed with the device, which runs on an operating system called rOS within the company.

Apple added augmented reality to the iPhone for the first time in 2017, allowing new games and apps for mobile devices, such as those to put furniture in your living room before buying it.
