The world's first under-screen camera phone is coming in September

Next month, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer ZTE is preparing to launch the world's first mass-produced phone with an under-screen camera that supports 5G networks.

The (ZTE Axon 20 5G), which will be launched in China on the first of September, will be the first smartphone with an under-screen camera to be launched on the market.

The front camera is hidden under the screen, without the need for any bump or small circular hole, and the design increases the area of the smartphone screen, which usually includes a black spot at the top that contains the camera.

The new ZTE Axon 20 5G is rumored to run on the Android 10 operating system, and comes with an OLED screen measuring 6.92 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels, according to a leak on the Chinese regulatory authority (TENAA) website.

However, the exact configurations are currently not confirmed, and more details will be revealed next month.

"With the aim of continuously providing consumers with unprecedented user experiences, ZTE is committed to accelerating the development of innovative technologies," the company said in a blog post.

By launching the world's first under-screen camera phone that supports the fifth generation (5G) networks, ZTE will promote the development of screen technologies in the smartphone industry, which means providing a revolutionary experience for all consumers.

The company describes the new device as a milestone in its ambition to sell a true full-screen smartphone.

ZTE said: All the major players in the industry have been working on a smartphone with an under-screen camera.

To accommodate the front camera, smartphone designs previously used the popular extrusion screen.

Other designs include the smartphone's selfie camera, which appears within the Samsung Galaxy A80, which slides to reveal the front camera.

And given that consumers spend more time enjoying video content, smartphone makers are tasked with keeping the entire screen clear of any holes, and offering a full screen.

And front camera technology integrated under the screen provides a way to do this without substituting the front camera.

Other Chinese companies, including Oppo and Xiaomi, are working on under-screen camera technology.

In June of last year, both companies teased versions of the technology on social media platforms, although neither of them has yet to launch the product with the hidden camera under the screen.

In 2019, ZTE launched the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G, which is one of the first phones to support fifth generation (5G) networks available in China, which features a uniquely curved screen.

ZTE claims that it has achieved many breakthroughs in the field of smartphone screens, including the pressure-sensitive screen within the (Axon 7) phone and the (ZTE Axon M Z999) dual-screen foldable phone.
