How can you set up Microsoft Authenticator to protect your accounts?



The Microsoft Authenticator application allows users to set up the 2FA (two-factor authentication) feature on an iPhone or Android phone, where they can use the application to protect their accounts, and the application supports all accounts that use Microsoft services, Google and Facebook applications, and some third-party services and applications.

How can you set up Microsoft Authenticator to protect your accounts?


Microsoft Authenticator application enables you to use the feature (two-factor authentication) without receiving text messages repeatedly when you log in to your Microsoft account, the application can provide a code or notification for approval, and the application also works with non-Microsoft accounts via the feature Create Its symbol.

To set up the application, you need a desktop or laptop computer, Android phone or an iPhone, you also need a username and password for your Microsoft account, then follow these steps:


  •  Go to account.microsoft.com/account and log in with your Microsoft account data.
  •  Scroll down and choose Update.
  •  Under the "More security options" tab, click "Explore."
  • On the next screen that appears, click Get it now.
  • Click the "Google Play" or "App Store" button to send the link to install the application to your phone.
  • Once the app is installed in your phone, return to this page and click Next.
  •  Open the application in your phone, and click on the option (Scan QR Code) SCAN QR CODE, you will receive a notification asking you to allow the application to be given permission to access the images and record the video, press the (Allow) option.
  •  After scanning the QR code, click on “Done” on the computer.
  •  On your phone, click on the "GOT IT" option under the welcome message, and you will see your Microsoft account in the app.
  •  A notification will be sent to the app on your phone to test your account.
  •  Accept the alert in the application, then select the (Next) option.

Note: Microsoft Authenticator will be the default way to verify your identity when using 2-step verification, or resetting a password.

How to use the app to log in:


Once set up, when logging into a Microsoft account, you will receive a notification on your phone, and when logging into a non-Microsoft account, you will be prompted to enter a 6-digit code that you can request to create with the app.

  •  Go to your account page and enter your username and password.
  •  If you use a Microsoft account to sign in, you will receive a notification, click to accept.
  •  If you are using another account you will need to enter the code generated by the application, if you do not see it, click on the arrow on the right side of the account name, then click on the Show code option.

How to use the app with other accounts:


To set up the Microsoft Authenticator app in a third-party account, such as: Facebook, you'll need to create an icon in that account's settings and link it to the app, and to do that follow these steps:

  •  Go to Facebook and log in.
  •  Click on the arrow in the upper left of the screen, and choose Settings & Privacy.
  •  Choose (Settings).
  •  Click on the Security and Login option, on the left side of the screen.
  •  Click Edit, next to the "Use Two-factor Authentication" option, and enter the password again if prompted.
  •  Click the "Use an Authenticator" option.
  •  Open the application in your phone, then click on the three points in the top right of the screen to open the main menu.
  •  Click (Add Account), then click on the "Other account" option.
  •  Delete the QR code generated by Facebook, then click (Continue).
  •  Return to the application and click on the 6-digit code generated by the application.
  •  In the confirmation message, press (Done).

The app is freely available for iPhone and iPad users in the App Store, and for Android devices users in Google Play.
